Boats: Chris-Craft Triple-Cockpit Runabout
Memories: Conflicting
Leaving Small’s Hotel, Chapter 1:
“Welcome to Small’s,” she said. “It’s a pleasure to have you here. I’m Albertine Gaudet, the Innkeeper. . . . I apologize for the launch . . . . We call it a launch, but it’s really just an old boat, isn’t it? We used to bring people from the mainland in a handsome old Chris-Craft runabout. You would have liked that.
For some time there has been a lively, friendly, dispute over which Chris-Craft runabout Peter and Albertine owned. I am among those whose memory corresponds to theirs. It was a triple-cockpit runabout from the 1930s that had been restored at Raskol’s boatyard, with Peter doing some of the restoration work. I don’t know the exact year.
Here is a video of a 1930s triple cockpit in action:
You could have one of your own, or at least a model. This kit is available from Garrett Wade. Albertine would approve: she built a model of Small’s Hotel from scratch.
